A state audit in January revealed that three grants totaling nearly $60 million
were awarded without going through proper review channels. The audit stated
Bill Gimson,
the executive director of CPRIT at the time, recommended the three
grants for approval even though the peer review councils did not
recommend them for approval.
Gimson resigned in December."
